Race Review

The 2022 MetaSprint series concluded with a hugely competitive Metasprint Triathlon with many athletes and teams turning up at East Coast Park early in the morning ready to race. Now in its 15th year, the MetaSprint Series has proven it lives large in the hearts of Singaporeans, with the race welcoming over 1,100 competitors returning to this familiar venue for the first time in three years. The race village was buzzing with action on what was a relatively hot and humid Sunday morning.

As well as the sprint-distance contests which the MetaSprint Series derives its name from, also on the day program were the usual Discovery, Youth and Kids races that provided a platform for the next generation of athletes to TRI and shine!

TRIBAL Triathlon Singapore emerged as Overall Club Champions 2022 for our debut year – a performance that wouldn’t have been possible without an amazing team of coaches, dedicated athletes and a super supportive community of friends & family.

The three-part series (Aquathlon / Duathlon / Triathlon) makes for an exciting racing calendar in the early half of the year and offers new athletes a low barrier of entry into multisport with the various race distances available. SMU Aquathlon put on a strong performance in the Aquathlon event and led the leader board at the end of the first leg held at Sentosa with TRIBAL and a few other clubs jostling for pole position.

The Duathlon series along the Kallang waterfront saw many of our athletes tackling their first run-bike-run event. The scenic run route and extra wide roads / smooth tarmac of Nicoll Highway proved to be a great hit with everyone as they cruised along to finish their respective races. The race saw many new personal bests broken and was a great learning platform for the athletes.

Consistent efforts by the TRIBAL athletes across the different age categories helped secure massive points to put us into the hotseat going into the final leg. The club managed to hold off the strong push from defending champions (and host) Metasport and ended the series on a strong note despite some torrid conditions on race day – an extremely warm and choppy swim at East Coast beach followed by a humid bike and run which saw many fall victim to the course. No DNFs on the day with the athletes showing physical and mental resilience, each of them persevering to the end. Most importantly, everyone on the team crossed the finish line safe and sound – sending our best wishes to those who got involved in the crashes!

We’ve seen the hard work and discipline put into each training session by the athletes and the TRIBAL coaching team is super glad to see them pay dividends on race day. For the rookies - this is only the start of an exciting chapter in multisport and we are expecting so much more to come in the future races especially with borders reopening!

Special mention to the following athletes who performed consistently across the series and took home the overall series wins in their respective age groups / category!
